Long Island Man Arrested For Armed Kidnapping, Robbery Of Woman, Police Say

A Long Island man was arrested for the alleged armed kidnapping and robbery of a woman who was talking on her cell phone in a vehicle in a parking lot.

Jay Rowe, age 47, of Springs, East Hampton, was arrested on Monday, March 29, for the incident which took place on Monday, March 8 in the parking of the Springs School, said the East Hampton Police.

According to police, Rowe, entered a woman's vehicle while she was parked talking on her cellphone and pulled out a handgun, and demanded she drive to Shhispsyard Lane, a dead-end road, police said.

Once at that location, Rowe allegedly demanded money and removed around $8,000 from her purse and her cell phone before fleeing on foot, police said.

An investigation identified Rowe as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He turned himself in to the police and was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Kidnapping
  • Grand larceny

He is being held and will face arraignment on Tuesday, March 30.
